Awards and Benefits
The postdoctoral stipend is $44,000 plus health insurance. U.S.-Japan Advanced Research Fellows are offered shared office space at the Center and access to Harvard facilities.

Candidates must have completed all the requirements for a Ph.D. or other terminal degree before the fellowship commences.

Terms
Advanced Research Fellows reside at the Center and, in addition to their own work, participate in the activities of the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations and teach one course in an FAS department.

Scholars pursuing interdisciplinary work are invited to apply for a semester-long Quadrant Fellowship at the University of Minnesota to be held in academic year 2011-2012. Quadrant is a joint initiative of the University of Minnesota Press, a leader in interdisciplinary scholarly publishing, and the Institute for Advanced Study.
Please note that the fellowship may not be used for work toward a degree and is not open to faculty or staff at the University of Minnesota.
Submission deadline for complete applications is November 19, 2010. Electronic submission is preferred. Paper submissions must be postmarked by November 19, 2010.
During their semester in residence at the IAS in Minneapolis, fellows will receive a stipend of up to $30,000, depending on rank and experience. Fellowships include medical and dental coverage. At the IAS, fellows will participate in weekly lunches, coffees, and public lectures with a lively interdisciplinary community that includes University of Minnesota fellows and other Quadrant fellows. They will also be involved in at least one of Quadrant's research and publishing collaboratives: Design, Architecture, and Culture ; Environment, Culture, and Sustainability ; Global Cultures; and Health and Society. Fellows will give a public lecture and will present a work-in-progress in a workshop setting with their Quadrant collaborative group or groups. In addition, they will work directly with an editor from the University of Minnesota Press to develop their manuscripts for submission. Manuscripts submitted to the University of Minnesota Press will undergo standard peer review and Press board approval process.

UNESCO/People's Republic of China - The Great Wall Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme

With a view to promoting international exchanges in the field of education, culture, communication, science and technology, and to enhancing friendship among peoples of the world, the Government of the People's Republic of China has placed at the disposal of UNESCO, under the sponsorship of the Organization, twenty five fellowships for advanced studies and two more fellowships on agriculture-related subjects specially at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia and the Pacific and certain countries in the Arab States.

The fellowships, tenable in a selected number of Chinese universities, are of one year duration or less. These fellowships, which are in most cases to be conducted in English, are offered to senior advanced students wishing to pursue higher studies or intending to undertake research mainly independently with periodic guidance from the assigned supervisor. In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study the Chinese language prior to taking up research/study in their field of interest.

• Hold at least the equivalent of the Master's Degree; except for the agriculture-related subject the BSc Degree at least;
• English proficiency is required;
• Be not more than 45 years of age; and,
• Be in good health, both physically and mentally.

Procedure for the submission of applications

All applications should be endorsed by the relevant Government body (the National Commission or Permanent Delegation) and must be made in English with the following attachments:

• Application form for China/UNESCO The Great Wall Fellowship (copy attached) in triplicate;

• Notarized photocopies of diplomas and certificates, and school-certified transcripts of complete academic records (translated in English when applicable) in triplicate;
• Copy of the university's invitation letter, for those students who have been admitted in advance by a Chinese university, in triplicate;
• Two letters of recommendation (in English) by professors or associate professors familiar with the work of the candidate, in triplicate;
• A research proposal containing no less than 400 words (in English) of the post-graduate study to be undertaken during the candidate’s stay in China, in triplicate;

• English language proficiency certificate, in triplicate

The award, available to citizens and permanent residents of Australia, Canada and New Zealand, is designed as an incentive for students of high academic achievement who have a severe disability. It is intended for those who plan to undertake graduate study with a view to preparing themselves for a role in the professions, in politics, or more particularly, in university teaching and research and who have disability issues as a continuing interest. The award is made to enable the recipient to secure such assistance, by travel, by the preparation of computer software, or by other means as will facilitate effective study and preparation for the future.

The International Fellowships Program (IFP) is a program based in New York, and supported by the Ford Foundation. It is administered in Tanzania as IFP-Tanzania in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF)..

IFP-Tanzania is hereby announcing the fellowships for advanced study, of up to three years of study to exceptional individuals with potential qualities and who will use their education to further development in their own communities and the nation, ultimately bringing about greater social and economic justice in the country and also worldwide. IFP fellowships will be awarded to applicants from diverse backgrounds, more specifically, to those from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education.
These fellowships are tenable in the world, were the IFP programme has Strategic Partnership Universities (SUPs). A total of Seventeen (17) fellowships will be awarded to deserving Tanzanians, for the 2011/2012 academic year to undertake MASTERS PROGRAMME ONLY.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicant must

• Be resident or resident nationals of Tanzania or other official resident of Tanzania
• Hold an honors bachelor’s degree- for those applying for Masters Fellowships
• Have demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to community service and/ or national development.
• Have significant relevant professional or other work experience related to proposed field of study, of not less than three (3) years.
• Intent to pursue a post-graduate degree that will directly enhance their leadership capacity in an academic, policy, practical or artistic discipline and field corresponding to one or more of the Foundation’s areas of endeavor.
• Present a plan specifying how they will apply their studies to social problems in their own countries.
• Commit themselves to working on these issues after completing the fellowship period.

• Priority will be given to people living and working with communities outside the major cities or
• Those working with marginalized groups in rural or urban poor.

The Indicorps fellowship is a profound personal experience and an opportunity to understand participatory development through intense voluntary service. The structured program encourages participants to leave their comfort zones, place others’ interests before their own, test their own potential to affect change, explore their relationship with India, and understand what it means to lead by committing themselves to innovative grassroots projects. Indicorps believes that giving one’s time and energy, without any attachment to the outcome, regardless of the circumstances, is an unparalleled personal experience in service. At the same time, the fellowship is a chance for fellows to address their own identity, recognize their personal boundaries, and understand how to produce change in their environment(s). The fellowship is deeply rewarding, a transformational and challenging personal journey, and part of Indicorps’ collective experiment for change.

Approach to development
Indicorps’ approach to development involves a total investment of body, mind and soul into the process of “being the change.” Fellows take individual personal responsibility to execute and complete projects, defined in partnership with local development organizations, that address particular community challenges. Recognizing the project as a foundational cornerstone or platform for change, Indicorps pushes fellows to actively test their and creatively explore the possibilities of community-oriented leadership.

More about the Fellowship program
Each year, Indicorps selects young professionals of Indian origin for one and two year service fellowships with grassroots service organizations in India. To be eligible for the fellowship program, you must be a person of Indianorigin (Government of India definition) and have at minimum a university degree or five years work experience. Individuals apply specifically to projects of their interest.

The first month of the fellowship involves an -intense, physically and mentally rigorous, month-long orientation to India, the Indicorps philosophy, and practical living. In conjunction with grassroots fieldwork, Indicorps also requires fellows to attend periodic workshops that encourage participants to deepen their understanding of Indian development, to reflect, to share progress, to collectively solve problems, and to re-energize. Some fellows opt for a second year to broaden their understanding of development and take leadership in managing projects or Indicorps programs.

The fellowship has stringent documentation requirements and promotes self-accountability. The program is carefully crafted to consider long-term impact and to defy common critiques of both international volunteers and the organizations with which they work.

Indicorps provides a nominal stipend to enable fellows to live simply and work in India for the duration of their fellowship. Basic room, board, and fellowship-related travel are covered by Indicorps or the local project partner organization. Indicorps is a total immersion program and encourages fellows to be a part of their communities to the greatest extent possible – including attempting to live within the means of their location.

NOTE: The Indicorps stipend is designed to cover only basic living costs, some of which may be provided in-kind. The stipend does not include airfare to/from the applicant’s current location, incidentals, health care or insurance, or a personal spending allowance. Participants will incur some out-of-pocket personal expenses during the fellowship year.

Evaluation for effort

As part of our commitment to development, Indicorps will continually evaluate for effort. Indicorps reserves the right, at any stage of the program, to dismiss fellows who do not embrace the spirit and/or commitments underlying the Indicorps concept.

DUO-SINGAPORE EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIP AWARD Applications for AY 2010/2011 DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award is now open.

About the Award

The Asia-Europe Meeting’s (ASEM) DUO Fellowship Fund aims to promote student exchanges between European and Asian ASEM member countries. Under this fund, the DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship is awarded by the Singapore Government to Singapore and ASEAN students studying in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU).

The Award is also open to students from European ASEM countries (who come from universities with fee waiver arrangements with NTU, NUS and SMU) The Award, based on merit, is for a pair of exchanges between a university in Singapore and its respective partner university in Europe in any academic field. Each student will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros for one semester of up to four months, which covers airfare, accommodation and living expenses.

There is no bond imposed by the Singapore Government for the Award, which is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

• The ASEM DUO Exchange Fellowship Award is tenable for one semester of up to four months.
• Each recipient will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros that covers airfare, accommodation and living expenses. No additional assistance will be provided for other expenses.
• Recipients need not pay any tuition fees to the foreign university but continue to pay the normal fees to the university they are from.

WWF-US has announced the Kathryn Fuller Fellowships for 2010. For nearly 50 years WWF has committed to delivering science-based conservation results while incorporating the latest research and innovations. As part of its commitment to advancing conservation through science, WWF established Kathryn Fuller Fellowships to support PhD students and postdoctoral researchers working on issues of exceptional importance and relevance to conservation in WWF-US priority places. This year, the Kathryn Fuller Science for Nature Fund will support doctoral and postdoctoral research in the following three areas:

• Ecosystem services
• Measuring and monitoring carbon stocks in forests
• Climate change impacts on and adaptation of freshwater resources

Fuller Doctoral Fellows receive either $15,000 or $20,000 allocated over a period of up to 2 years to cover research expenses.

Fuller Postdoctoral Fellows receive $140,000 to cover a stipend and research expenses over a period of up to two years as well as $17,500 to cover indirect costs at the host institution over the two-year fellowship

period.

Citizens of any nation may apply. Applicants for Fuller Doctoral Fellowships must be currently enrolled in a PhD program. WWF staff, directors, and their relatives as well as current Russell E. Train Fellows are ineligible to receive Fuller Fellowships.

WWF’s Education for Nature Program is pleased to announce the availability of Russell E. Train Fellowships for students from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Kenya, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Tanzania, and Timor Leste who are pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in conservation-related fields. Train Fellowships provide up to two years of support for education-related costs including tuition and fees, room and board, books, travel, and research. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of a participating country and must have at least two years’ experience in conservation. Applicants must have applied to, have been accepted to, or be currently enrolled in a conservation-related degree program at an accredited institution of higher education.

The University of Twente (UT) and Delft University of Technology (TUD) aim to develop a wearable exoskeleton to assist human walking. This development project is part of larger project named MindWalker that has been funded by the European Union.
The purpose of the MindWalker project is to conceive a system empowering lower limbs disabled people with walking abilities that let them perform their usual daily activities in the most autonomous and natural manner. Novel approaches to non-invasive Brain Computer Interfaces will be used in order to control a lower limbs orthosis enabling different types of gaits. Newly developed EEG bio-sensors will be applied to enable lightweight wearable EEG caps for everyday use.
The PhD position at the TUD will focus on the mechatronic design and testing of the wearable exoskeleton, with the focus on low-level control aimed at walking stability. The challenge is to keep it lightweight, comfortable and cosmetic acceptable, and autonomous.
The PhD position at the UT will focus on the high level control of the wearable exoskeleton including the user interaction, guaranteeing stability of walking and controllability by the user. In the first phase of the project extensive use will be made of previously lab bound LOPES robotic gait trainer to experiment with user interaction. Both PhD students will collaborate closely with the other partners of the consortium that consists of European research institutes and business companies. Bachelor and master students will also be involved in the project and the candidate will have an important role in the daily supervision of these students. A modest contribution in the educational tasks will also be demanded.

Profile
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers with a master degree in Mechanical or Control Engineering or a closely related field, with outstanding results. A strong background in biomechanics and modeling of dynamical systems and control engineering is preferred. We seek for candidates with good team spirit, who like to work in an internationally oriented environment. Fluency in English is a requirement. An interview and a scientific presentation will be part of the selection procedure.

Offer
We offer a scientific education on a multidisciplinary subject. The assignment is for 4 years, with a go/no-go assessment at the end of the first year. The candidates are expected to finish the project with a PhD thesis and disseminate the results through patents (if applicable), publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences. Your starting salary will be € 2042,-,gross per month in the first year, leading up to € 2612, – gross per month in the last year, according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. Job Description 

EVIMalaR is a collaborative research Network of Excellence, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the University of Glasgow. It currently engages 49 Principal Investigators from 34 institutions in Europe (29) and malaria endemic countries (5). The consortium conducts research on malaria parasites and their interactions with both mammalian hosts and mosquito vectors. EVIMalaR’s International PhD Programme aims to train talented young scientists from both North and South in malaria research, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. It thus offers a unique opportunity for students to become engaged in malaria research in world-leading malaria research institutions. Training of the future EVIMalaR students is conducted through the virtual European Malaria Graduate School, which is organized and operated in collaboration with the EMBL and the Heidelberg University.

Applications are invited for studentships (funded for a maximum of 3.5 years) linked to collaborative research projects, each supervised by two or more principle investigators from different countries. Applicants should hold the necessary qualifications entitling them to undertake a PhD study in their host country, and should possess a high standard of written and spoken English. TEAM
Training in European Asset Management is a Marie Curie ITN with PhD positions available in Dublin, Paris, Nottingham, Graz, Copenhagen and Lausanne. These positions are organised into 3 research themes:

• Bridge Loading Impacts

This team of scientists is an integral part of the in house sequencing facility. The successful candidate will have strong bioinformatic skills, a solid background in biology, and a good communication aptitude. The post is based at the Institute of Population Genetics at the Vetmeduni Vienna. Job Description
The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) in Singapore invites scholars specialising in Buddhist art or Indian Trade Textiles to apply for a 12-month research fellowship. The applications will be screened by a committee of eminent scholars and will be administered by the Research and Publication Unit (RPU) of ACM.
The research fellowships were first offered in 2009. They are planned to generate in-depth study, documentation and thought leading publications on specialised aspects of Asian cultures. This is in line with the aim of the ACM to be a centre of research in Asian cultures and arts. Since its opening at the Empress Place in 2003, the ACM has established a reputation in the international museum arena for its excellent gallery displays and exhibitions. The ACM is undertaking to develop its research potential in the field of Asian archaeology, art history and material culture, so as to become the regional hub synonymous with excellent research projects and publications in the field.

For over a decade, the World Forest Institute (WFI) has offered a unique International Fellowship Program to professionals in natural resources–such as foresters, environmental educators, land managers, NGO practioners and researchers–to conduct a practical research project at the World Forestry Center in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.. In order to support scholarship in the field of British art and architectural history and to disseminate knowledge through publications, exhibitions and education, the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art offers a variety of fellowships and grants. Please note, however, that the Centre’s remit does not cover contemporary fine arts, archaeology, the current practice of architecture or the performing arts.

Junior Fellowships in the United Kingdom (based at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London) or the United States (based at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven) are offered to scholars already engaged in doctoral research on British art or architectural history.

Candidates may be of any nationality, but normally must be enrolled in a graduate programme at an American or other non-British university for study in the United Kingdom or at a non-American university for study in the United States. Fellowships are usually awarded for a period of three months and the maximum award is ?7,500 (which includes ?500 towards travel expenses). Junior Fellows at the Paul Mellon Centre are encouraged to come to London in the Autumn, when there are no undergraduates in residence. As part of the terms and conditions of the award, successful candidates will be required to submit an end-of-award report on the progress they have made. If a Fellow accepts full-time employment during the period of the Junior Fellowship, the Centre will request an appropriate reimbursement of the award. Fellowships must be completed by the end of the academic year immediately following the granting of the award. Fellowships cannot be deferred nor can they run concurrently with a Fellowship awarded by another institution.

Applicants for Junior Fellowships may ask to be considered for a Research Support Grant, should their Fellowship application prove unsuccessful. If they wish to be so considered, they must complete a separate cover sheet and a brief (one side of paper) statement of their proposed alternative course of study in the United Kingdom or United States, bearing in mind that Research Support Grants do not exceed ?3,000.
