The Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL) are a joint venture of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, conducting high level research and  training in the fields of biotechnology and molecular life sciences. Our research is curiosity-driven, covering a broad range of research areas including Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Computational and Structural Biology, Organismal Biology and Neuro-sciences.
It is carried out in over 60 independent research groups involving more than 470 people from all over the world. Located at the Vienna Biocenter Campus, the Max F. Perutz Laboratories enable young scientists to participate in high quality research in an international academic environment as well as establishing connections with nearby companies

Eligibility
Successful candidates are expected to have a strong training in molecular life sciences or a related discipline (MD, Mathematics, Physics, etc.) and be determined to follow an academic career in research.
You must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent before the start of the PostDoc-training but not necessarily when applying.

BioHealth Computing Erasmus Mundus student scholarships are addressed for highly qualified European and non-European students willing to study the BioHealth Computing EM programme in two of the above institutions. Additional student scholarships for students under the Western Balkans and Turkey Window will also be granted.
BioHealth Computing EM is a multi-track research oriented Master programme within the guidelines of the Bologna process whose scope is designing innovative tools and to work on a joint research program associating 4 areas of knowledge: clinical research, environmental and animal health, molecular biotechnology and computational mathematics.

Selection Criteria
Students are required having already completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. degree or a nationally recognized degree equivalent to 180 ECTS) and the first year of a Master of Science (MSc degree or a nationally recognized degree equivalent to 60 ECTS), with a minimum grade of “B–“ in the ECTS grading scale (at least a score of 70%). If requested, the applicant must prove the international recognition of the mentioned Degree as equivalent to a B.Sc. + first year of Ms, and provide such official recognition translated in English. In any case, applicants should hold a university degree by September 1st 2011. Students will be selected on the basis of their academic merits and language skills (English). Students are required having a fluent level in English, certified by a TOEFL score. The result has to be paper based at least 580, computer based at least 237 or internet based at least 92-93. An alternative is a minimum score of 6.5 from IELTS test. Furthermore, basic computer skills are required. The Consortium Committee can admit excellent students with a somewhat lower TOEFL (550, 213 or 79-80 respectively) or IELTS score (6.0). BioHealth Computing EM is comitted to promote a balanced gender participation in the course, access to disadvantaged students and to students with isabilities or special needs. As such, in case students of different gender are ranked equally, the tie would be resolved in favour of the less represented gender in the cholarship or admitted list. Also, students with disabilities or special needs are subject to a more favourable evaluation in the setection process and, if selected, might qualify for additional funding from the Erasmus Mundus programme. The Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia (JISPA) was first introduced in 1993. It is funded by the Government of Japan, administered by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and conducted at various graduate schools in Japan. Its objective is to contribute to institutional capacity building in economic policymaking to promote the sustainable growth of emerging and developing economies in Asia and the Pacific. By training future macroeconomic managers in these countries, the JISPA aims to enable them to better formulate sound economic and financial stability policies needed for sustainable growth and development.
The JISPA targets highly motivated government officials who may serve as future macroeconomic policy makers with the capacity and vision to contribute effectively to the economic development of their countries. Scholarship awards are made on the basis of the candidate’s academic record and work background, mathematical and statistics skills, English language proficiency, and potential for contributing to the macroeconomic and financial management and economic development of their country. The assessment also includes qualities such as the candidate’s commitment to public service, willingness to learn, and openness to new ideas.

Currently, the JISPA is open to qualified candidates from the following countries:

The Education & Training Committee of ESSO is pleased to offer a number of Training Fellowships to support trainees in Surgical Oncology. The aim of these fellowships is to allow young surgeons to visit a specialist centre, expand their experience and learn new techniques. These fellowships are competitive and applicants require support from the head of their own department as well as from the head of the department they wish to visit.
Up to 10 standard fellowships (value 2,000 EUR each) are granted each year to support a young colleague who wishes to spend 1-3 months at a specialist centre in order to expand his/her clinical or research experience in surgical oncology.
In addition, one major training fellowship (value 10,000 EUR) is intended for a longer period of training (6-12 months). The successful applicant of the Major Fellowship will be invited to summarise this experience in an original article to be posted on the ESSO website. He/she will also be invited to give an oral presentation at the next ESSO congress.

• Applicants must be specialist/specializing in surgery (or in any other medical discipline where cancer surgery is performed, i.e. gynaecology).

Scholars pursuing interdisciplinary work are invited to apply for a semester-long Quadrant Fellowship at the University of Minnesota to be held in academic year 2011-2012. Quadrant is a joint initiative of the University of Minnesota Press, a leader in interdisciplinary scholarly publishing, and the Institute for Advanced Study.
Please note that the fellowship may not be used for work toward a degree and is not open to faculty or staff at the University of Minnesota.

During their semester in residence at the IAS in Minneapolis, fellows will receive a stipend of up to $30,000, depending on rank and experience. Fellowships include medical and dental coverage. At the IAS, fellows will participate in weekly lunches, coffees, and public lectures with a lively interdisciplinary community that includes University of Minnesota fellows and other Quadrant fellows. They will also be involved in at least one of Quadrant's research and publishing collaboratives: Design, Architecture, and Culture ; Environment, Culture, and Sustainability ; Global Cultures; and Health and Society. Fellows will give a public lecture and will present a work-in-progress in a workshop setting with their Quadrant collaborative group or groups. In addition, they will work directly with an editor from the University of Minnesota Press to develop their manuscripts for submission. Manuscripts submitted to the University of Minnesota Press will undergo standard peer review and Press board approval process.

UNESCO/People's Republic of China - The Great Wall Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme

With a view to promoting international exchanges in the field of education, culture, communication, science and technology, and to enhancing friendship among peoples of the world, the Government of the People's Republic of China has placed at the disposal of UNESCO, under the sponsorship of the Organization, twenty five fellowships for advanced studies and two more fellowships on agriculture-related subjects specially at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia and the Pacific and certain countries in the Arab States.

The fellowships, tenable in a selected number of Chinese universities, are of one year duration or less. These fellowships, which are in most cases to be conducted in English, are offered to senior advanced students wishing to pursue higher studies or intending to undertake research mainly independently with periodic guidance from the assigned supervisor. In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study the Chinese language prior to taking up research/study in their field of interest.

That is why we are pleased to announce the Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. Google is committed to helping the innovators of the future make the most of their talents by providing scholarships and networking retreats for computer science students with disabilities. This scholarship aims to help dismantle barriers that keep students with disabilities from entering computing, encourage them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in creating technology.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic performance and demonstrated passion for computer science. A group of Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students will be chosen from the applicant pool. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of researchers and engineers. The scholarship recipients will each receive a € 7,000 (or equivalent) scholarship for the 2010/2011 academic year.

In June 2010, all scholarship recipients will be invited to visit Google’s Engineering Centre in Zurich for an all-expenses-paid networking retreat. Scholarship funds amount to NOK 1.000.000, - (approx. Euro 125.000,-/US Dollars 150.000,-) will be awarded to Ibsen-related projects worldwide.
The International Ibsen Scholarships were initiated by the Norwegian government and will be awarded for the third time in 2010. We solicit relevant applications, from projects throughout the world.
The scholarships are meant to act as incentives for critical discourse in regards to existential and society-related subject matters concerning Henrik Ibsen, and are applicable to individuals, organizations and institutions within the artistic and cultural communities. The Department of Humanities is delighted to invite applications for 5 MRes English Literature and 5 MRes History Studentships for September 2010. Successful candidates will be awarded a full fee waiver.
The MRes is ideal preparation for students wishing to pursue doctoral studies, careers in professional research or teaching. On completion students will be well prepared to commence work on a PhD and to finish this within three years. The successful applicant will be part of an international research team working on the project "Migration,Knowledge and Development: Role of Knowledge and Skills in the Migration Process",which is funded through the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research North-South(NCCR N-S), with financial support from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

The project takes a critical perspective on the recently surfaced new "optimistic" discourse on migration,highlighting migrants’ potential as agents of global development. While usefully underscoringmigrants’ ability to create and spread knowledge and resources, this perspective risks portrayingmigrants as one homogenous group and ignoring individual or large-scale factors, like personalmotivation or societal context, which can limit their contributions to overall development. Drawingon case studies from Central and South Asia this research project aims to achieve a more differentiatedunderstanding of the dynamics of knowledge and skill flow in the migration process and itspossible linkages with development. The project’s concept note can be obtained from the contactgiven below.

Applicants should have a Master degree in Human Geography, Migration or Development Studiesor any relevant Social Sciences discipline. The successful candidate is expected to carry out fieldworkeither in rural and/or urban areas of Kyrgyzstan or in Kyrgyzstan and Nepal in a comparativeway. Candidates are requested to send:

• A letter of application and a full curriculum vitae including two names of possible referees;
• A draft PhD research sketch in English (about 4 pages) within the broader theme of the projecton "Migration, Knowledge and Development", incl. core research question and its justification;links to ongoing theoretical debates; possible empirical field research; relevant literature.

Basic knowledge of Russian is an asset but no pre-condition, but must be acquired at a later stage.

The EFC AGA and Conference Scholarship Programme is now open for applications.

The deadline is 12 March 2010.

The scholarship programme is generously supported by:
Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, EVKAF, Fondazione CRT, the Global Fund for Women, Realdania and Robert Bosch Stiftung.

This scholarship fund has been generously funded by EFC members and is aimed at foundation staff worldwide, with special emphasis on participants whose attendance can be directly linked to the conference theme.

Eligibility and Application Conditions
The eligibility criteria required to apply for the scholarship is as follows:

• The organisation should be unable to cover the costs of attending the conference
• Transparent finances and activities
• Capacity to qualify for EFC membership
• Attending the whole AGA and Conference
• Only one application per organisation
• Priority will be given to those aged 35 years and under

The scholarship programme is intended to cover one or more of the following:

• Registration fee for the AGA and Conference  - Registration covers conference participation, meals (where indicated in the programme), social events and a conference bag of materials (including the Delegates List) distributed when registering onsite
• Travel expenses (participant’s own arrangements, economy rates only) - Any transfers, meals, visas or other travel-related costs are exempt and these must be covered by the individual
• Accommodation expenses  (two nights in a single room selected by the EFC Secretariat) - Hotel incidentals such as phone calls, room service, pay-for-view tv etc are exempt and are the responsibility of the individual upon checking out of the hotel

MASDAR Institute Graduate Scholarship to study at Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi
The MASDAR Institute is the centerpiece of the MASDAR Initiative, a landmark program by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. The MASDAR Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT provides assistance in recruitment of faculty members and senior administrative staff and the provision of course curriculum, amongst other matters. The Institute is located inside the world’s first carbon neutral, zero waste Masdar City, which will be powered solely by alternative energy, mainly solar energy. Eighty-eight students from 22 countries were admitted into the Fall 2009 intake, all on full scholarships.

Full scholarship is available to qualified talented students who meet its high admission standards which include appropriate TOEFL score, GRE and an excellent CGPA from a recognized university. A minimum CGPA of 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) or 2:1 in the British system, minimum TOEFL score of 577 (91 on the IBT) or academic IELTS (min 6.5), and a minimum GRE quantitative score of 700 are the basic requirements without which an applicant will most likely not be considered.

Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following

• 100% tuition fee scholarship
• Textbooks
• Laptop
• Medical Insurance
• Housing
• International students will receive reimbursement of travel expenses (economy class air-ticket) into Abu Dhabi and back home after completion of studies. Travel expenses (return economy class air-ticket) back to the student's home country at the end of the 1st year of studies will also be reimbursed.
• Reimbursement of TOEFL and GRE exam fees (upon registration at Masdar Institute and submission of original receipts)
• A competitive stipend per month (cost of living allowance).
• No bond or conditions to the scholarship upon graduation

The scholarship and benefits are subject to the student maintaining a minimum CGPA as determined by Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and satisfactory progress on their research.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)
In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank.
Now in its 23d year, the Regular Program has awarded 3,153 scholarships, selected from 58,944 applicants. In addition, 1,226 scholarships have been awarded in the various JJ/WBGSP Partnership Programs for a total of 4,379 awards.
The objective of the Scholarship and Fellowship Programs is to help create an international community of highly-trained professionals working in the field of economic and social development. The community will actively participate in the capacity building efforts in the developing countries.

Eligibility
To apply for a JJ/WBGSP scholarship under the Regular Program, an applicant must:

• Be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow.
• Be born after March 31, 1970.
• Have, by March 31, 2010, at least 2, preferably 4 to 5, years of recent full time professional experience acquired after a university degree, in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
• Be in good health.
• Be of good character.
• Not be a permanent resident or a national of any industrialized country.
• Not be residing in an industrialized country for more than one year.
• Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, International Development Association, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes), consultant, or relative of the aforementioned.
