MSA Charitable Trust PhD Scholarship, The University of Auckland Business School - MSA Charitable Trust PhD Scholarship
The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s foremost research-led university. Recently it rose in ranking and remains in the top one percent in the world by Times Higher Education. The University of Auckland Business School has outstanding staff conducting research at the leading edge of their fields. The School is located in the city of Auckland which is renowned for its high quality of living.

Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship is to fund outstanding postgraduate students who have been admitted or are seeking admission to the PhD programme in the Business School to undertake research on a topic which has the potential to impact on New Zealand business and/or business development in a globalising world. Thematically, preference will be given to proposals relating to the development of New Zealand business engagement with Asia.

  • One scholarship is on offer for $25,000 per year for up to three years.
Basis of selection
The basis of selection will be potential academic merit; an assessment of the quality of the proposed topic of the research and its potential impact on New Zealand business and/or business development; and an assessment of the applicant’s ability to complete the thesis in a timely manner. Consideration will also be given to leadership potential, potential contribution to industry, past study and experience in areas relevant to the proposed topic, written and verbal communication capabilities, interpersonal abilities, project management skills and demonstrated skills as a self-starter.

  • At the same time, complete an online Expression of Interest (EOI) at this page.
  • Email John Montgomery to tell him that you have completed the EOI.
  • Ensure that you receive an acknowledgement from John Montgomery.
  • Your scholarship application and your EOI must be completed by 31 March 2010.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be asked to submit further information, including a more detailed proposal, names and addresses of two referees, and possibly examples of written work, and final shortlisted applicants will be interviewed either face-to-face, or by video or telephone.
  • We intend to make final selections one month after the closing date, with the expectation that successful applicants will begin their study as soon after selection as possible.
