Molecular reference data for spectrometric diagnostics

Molecular reference data for spectrometric diagnostics
December 21, 2009
Job Description

Spectrometric diagnostics based on photonic effects, like absorption, fluorescence,or photo-acoustic spectroscopy, just to name a few, are very widely used analyticaltechniques to non-intrusively quantify physico-chemical sample properties like chemicalcomposition, temperature, pressure and others. An essential prerequisite for thequantitative evaluation of the sample’s spectroscopic signature, however, is a precise, absolute and spectrally well resolved absorption spectrum and the temperature, pressureand matrix dependence thereof. In order to enable traceable species measurementor develop even spectrometric primary methods for an absolute , non-contact chemicalanalysis it is therefore essential to precisely determine molecular parameters,e.g. the absorption line strength and pressure broadening or line shiftcoefficients. To generate such data sets we employ and optimize highest-resolution FT-IRspectrometers in the visible to mid infrared spectral range in conjunction with ultranarrowband tunable diode laser spectrometers. Furthermore advanced reference absorptioncells for wide pressure and temperature ranges, and highly sensitive multi-passor cavity-enhanced detection techniques have to be realized together with new, sophisticated data evaluation strategies to determine high-quality moleculardata for environmental research as well as industrial process control.
